Work Hard … Play Harder

This year’s summer staff event was a little delayed but that did not stop the Step Teachers’ family going to town in order to have a fun night.

The day’s events were kicked off with a trip to Queensway for a spot of ice skating.  As you can see from the photos; many of the staff did their best to recreate their own version of Bambi on Ice.

The ice skating was followed by a couple of rounds of bowling where Kim Shellock, who only joined the Norwich branch this summer, wiped the floor with her newly adopted Step family.

A company evening would not be complete without a trip to the pub for a well earned drink … as usual for some this went on well into the night.

Finally, a special well done to Andrew who had only been a non-smoker for two days before the day out and managed a night out on the town without a single puff.  We’ll keep you updated on his progress to kick his horrible habit.

Step Teachers achieve 100% pass rate in REC Quality Mark Audit

I am very pleased to announce that Step Teachers has, once again, passed the REC Quality Mark audit with a 100% pass rate.  We pride ourselves on our unfailing adherence to safe-guarding and having an unprecedented 100% pass rate in every audit since acquiring the Quality Mark in 2007 this is a testimony to our absolute determination to follow the best educational recruitment practices that our client schools value so highly.

AWR
The 1st October 2011 saw the introduction of the Agency Workers Regulations (AWR).  It is legislation from the European Union that aims to give agency workers the entitlement to the same basic employment and working conditions as if they had been recruited directly by the employer. If you have any questions on how the AWR might affect you, please email us on awr@stepteachers.co.uk.

Step Teachers – proud sponsors of the Walker Primary School Summer Fete

On Saturday 2nd July Step Teachers’ co-founder Marios Georgiou was proud to open the Walker Primary School Summer Fete.

On what proved to be a beautiful sunny day hundreds of children, parents and members of the local community turned out to raise money for the school.  Activities included singing and performances from the children, ‘dunking a teacher’ which was extremely popular, music, face painting and much much more.  Marios Georgiou, whose daughter is in Green Reception Class commented, ‘It was a lovely day and the children were extremely excited, I know Polly certainly was.  It’s a fantastic turn out and just shows how big the Walker Family is and how much the local community is willing to do to support our local school.’

The next Step for Anna Trofimova

After 8 years with Step Teachers, Anna called time on her career on 20th May 2011.  Having started at Step Teachers as a fresh faced 21 year old Anna took the brave decision to move on.  Anna said, ‘It’s the biggest decision I’ve had to take but sometimes you just want to seek a new challenge.  It’s going to be so weird not coming to Southgate every day!’

It was no surprise that the Step Family celebrated the departure of one of its favourite daughters with a night at ‘Lucky Voices’ Karaoke Bar on Upper Street.  Anna has long since been ‘infamous’ for her singing having once been described as, ‘…a cross between a dolphin and Anastasia!

On a more serious note, Anna played a key role in ensuring that Step Teachers was an industry leader in its pursuit of safer recruitment and was responsible for securing a 100% pass mark in all of Step Teachers’ audits by the REC / DfE.

Goodbye Anna

Step Teachers’ very own James Bond

Although he might not look quite like James Bond, Step Teachers has uncovered it’s very own champion of the Casino; well online poker!

Andrew Pavlou has been keeping it a secret from his colleagues but he has a talent for poker.  He does stress the importance of gambling responsibly and small amounts are equally fun.  Such is his talent however, that he won an online poker competition and won £2,500.  Asked what he would be spending his winnings on he said, ‘Unfortunately, it’s all gone, Zabel (his wife) has booked our summer holiday!’

Zabel, who also happens to be an excellent art teacher working through Step Teachers was unavailable for comment; she was busy internet shopping for their holiday.

Step Teachers Go Ape

As part of their reward for another successful and demanding year, the staff at Step Teachers were treated to a day out at Go Ape.

On a lovely sunny day the gang made their way to Go Ape, Black Park County Park, for some tree-top team bonding.  Visit our Facebook page at www.Facebook.com/stepteachers to see how some people couldn’t help but monkey about while others were definitely out of their comfort zone.

Step Teachers Expands to South  West!

The success of our East Anglia Office, which opened in February 2009, has shown that the best way to service our schools and teachers needs is to provide a dedicated local service.  We are therefore delighted to announce that as of April 2010 Step Teachers will be opening its South West Office!

The new office, which will be based at the Tamar Science Park in Plymouth – full address details listed below, will be run by our current Education Consultant Emma Eatwell.  Emma, whose career before joining Step Teachers included; opening up a new office for STA Travel in Norwich and working as a tour organiser for bands including Take That!; has taken the big step of relocating to Plymouth in order to run the office and maintain the relationships she has built up with her schools and teachers.

Emma said, ‘It’s a big challenge moving to a different part of the country but it isn’t anything I haven’t faced before.  I was hoping to convince Marios to open up an office in Cheltenham so I can move closer to home!  Everyone has been very helpful in suggesting places to stay, some of our clients have also invited me to stay with them until I get settled.  I can’t wait to get there and visit everyone.  I have been speaking to all customers for a year now and I just want to meet them all face-to-face.  Being based in Plymouth will allow me to interview our teachers even quicker and have more options for my schools when they call in for cover.  I can’t wait it’s going to be great!’

Step Teachers Expands to East Anglia!

Step Teachers officially opened its new office in Norwich on 18 March 2009 with guest-of-honour London’s Burning actor, Ben Onwukwe, who is also a supply teacher for Step Teachers.

The Norwich office is Step Teachers’ first branch outside its head office in London.  The family run business, run by two brothers, Marios and George Georgiou, chose Norwich because of its vibrant education scene and learning excellence.

''We are delighted to be opening our office in Norwich.  We have always worked closely with Norwich and the surroundings area so it’s wonderful to finally be able to put a face to the names of so many people that we have been working with over the years'' said co-founder, Marios Georgiou.

Ben Onwukwe, who is best known for playing ‘Recall’ in London’s Burning, said: ''In between acting jobs, I love teaching drama to kids and I have worked with Step Teachers now for many years.  Their excellent quality of service and passion for education means I always call them when I have a few weeks of''.

Welcoming Step Teachers to Norwich were over 40 representatives from schools and local teachers who joined in the opening celebrations with Ben, at which one lucky school won £200 of funding.

''We have taken on two local members of staff who can build on our relationships with their local knowledge.  We offer a strong personal service and are passionate about going that extra mile for our customers.  We also only supply teachers that have been fully CRB checked by us – a service that not all agencies will offer.  This is a critical process that we automatically undertake for each newly registered teacher'' said Marios Georgiou

As a former teacher, Step Teachers’ co-founder, Marios Georgiou, understands the needs of teachers and schools and this has seen Step Teachers thrive since it started in 2000.
