Job description

Step Teachers are looking for an exceptional SEN teacher or a newly qualified teacher (NQT) to work in an inclusive school in Hertfordshire. This is an exciting prospect of joining a growing and successful school as a SEN teacher. Students are encouraged in their learning to enquire, challenge and be creative in order to become the best that they can be. Students make good progress in their lessons and the standard of teaching is extremely good and the role of SEN teacher should fulfil the encouragement of educational independance and inclusive approach. The role of an SEN teacher must emphasise these attributes in addition to the following;

  • This position will involve some mainstream SEN teaching, therefore experience of teaching children with a variety of additional needs would be beneficial.
  • You will have a good understanding of SEN teaching and Educational Inclusion, and the needs of the more able and talented.
  • Personalised Learning and specifically Assessment for Learning (AfL) as part of the teaching and learning tool kit should be central to your teaching practice.
  • You should have a range of robust effective behaviour management strategies that can be employed in the classroom.
  • A comprehensive working knowledge of learning styles and how to incorporate Visual, Auditory and Kinaesthetic (VAK) learning opportunities into lesson planning/delivery would be a considerable asset in this role.
  • Establish good relationships, encourage good working practices and support and lead teachers in the phase group.
