Job description

Have you ever thought of being a teacher? Leading classes, inspiring young students and helping them realise their academic potential day by day and getting a feel for different schools and how they work is a closer opportunity than you may realise. As a Cover Supervisor you will be working on the front line in schools covering absent teachers in a range of subjects, getting right down to what it means to be a teacher and gaining invaluable experience that will prepare you for life as a qualified teacher.

Cover Supervisors working for Step Teachers can all expect training before starting, so if you are a recent graduate of any discipline we can help you take those first next steps towards becoming an outstanding teacher right away! You can stick to daily supply bookings and work towards something long-term once you’re settled on the requirements of the role and feel comfortable committing to a single school.

The salary you can expect will be on a daily rate, so you’ll be paid weekly in arrears and any long-term assignments will afford a higher salary than the standard day-to-day rate that you’re initially offered. Once you gain suitable experience in one school that we – or another agency/employer – can reference, you can change your classification to an unqualified teacher/instructor, at which point you can get yourself trained and qualified whilst working on a higher salary.

Candidates will be subject to a variety of checks including an enhanced DBS check, full references including your most recent employer and eligibility to work in the UK. Step Teachers are fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment.

Unlike other agencies, Step Teachers are more than happy to process your pay via PAYE – you will not be forced to go with an Umbrella Company whilst on supply.
