Graduate Teaching Assistant

Step Teachers are currently looking for a strong set of postgraduates to fulfill the role of a graduate teaching assistant in our mainstream and alternative provision schools. This is the perfect opportunity for individuals who are passionate about childhood studies looking to get practical, hands-on, paid experience in the classroom. The ideal candidate will have a passion for their post-grad subject and must have a passion for working with children, these positions can be based in either a nursery, primary, secondary, or alternative provision setting. 

Working hours for these roles can be variable, we can currently cater for a wide range of working patterns including full-time and part-time contracts. 

The ideal candidate will be able to show:

  • A degree that is relevant to the role (for example, childhood studies or psychology.)
  • The ability to apply their understanding of children and how they learn in a classroom setting.
  • A good understanding of how young learners develop.
  • A good understanding of their chosen curriculum area.
  • The ability to work well with children in small and large group settings.

Key responsibilities for the role will include:

  • Working alongside the class teacher to support children who need support in the classroom.
  • Supporting children with an EHCP alongside the SEN team
  • Leading sessions outside of the classroom with children both 1-1 and small groups
  • Planning and resourcing intervention sessions
  • Working alongside other professionals to assess children.

Candidates will be subject to a variety of checks including an enhanced DBS check, full references including your most recent employer and eligibility to work in the UK.
