Job description
We are seeking a reliable and enthusiastic Physics Technician to support the delivery of outstanding science education at an independent school.
As the Physics Technician, you will play a key role in supporting the Physics Department, ensuring that all practical lessons run smoothly, safely and efficiently. You will work closely with teaching staff to prepare and maintain equipment, manage resources, and help foster an engaging and safe learning environment for pupils. Beginning September 2025.
Duties as a Physics Technician:
Prepare, set up and clear away apparatus and materials for physics experiments and demonstrations.
Maintain, repair and store equipment and apparatus safely and securely.
Assist teaching staff during practical lessons where required.
Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, carrying out risk assessments where appropriate.
Keep up-to-date inventory records and place orders for equipment and consumables.
Support the wider Science Department when needed, including occasional cross-discipline tasks.
Help promote a positive learning atmosphere within the science laboratories.
Ideal Physics Technician:
Previous experience working as a Science Technician, ideally with a focus on Physics.
Good understanding of laboratory procedures and safety requirements.
Practical skills to maintain and repair physics apparatus and equipment.
Organised, proactive and able to work independently and as part of a team as a Physics Technician.
A science qualification (A Level or equivalent; a degree would be an advantage).
A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to undertake one).
