Job description
SEMH Teaching Assistant – Full-time, long-term temporary position starting as soon as possible
We are seeking two dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistants for full-time, long-term roles starting immediately. These positions offer a rewarding opportunity to support pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs in a nurturing and inclusive school environment. Duties as SEMH Teaching Assistant:
- Support pupils with SEMH needs in both classroom and one-to-one settings
- Assist the class teacher in delivering tailored learning activities
- Promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation strategies
- Help create a calm and structured learning environment
- Work closely with the SENCO and other support staff to implement individual education plans
- Provide feedback on pupil progress and behaviour to teaching staff
- Support pupils during transitions and break times
Ideal SEMH Teaching Assistant:
- Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs
- Strong understanding of behaviour management strategies
- Ability to build trusting relationships with pupils and staff
- Resilient, patient and empathetic approach
- Relevant qualifications or training in education, psychology or youth work (desirable)
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one
