Job description

We are seeking an organised and proactive Attendance Officer to join a supportive school team in September 2025.

Duties as an Attendance Officer:

 

  • Monitor and track pupil attendance and punctuality on a daily basis.

  • Maintain accurate attendance records using the school’s management information system.

  • Follow up unexplained absences promptly with parents/carers by phone, email, or home visits if required.

  • Work closely with staff, pupils, and families to identify barriers to good attendance and support strategies to improve it.

  • Prepare attendance reports for senior leaders and external agencies as needed.

  • Promote the importance of good attendance and punctuality throughout the school.

  • Liaise with external agencies such as the Education Welfare Service where necessary.

  • Assist with administrative tasks related to admissions, registers, and punctuality.

Ideal Attendance Officer:

 

  • Experience working in an administrative role, ideally within an education setting.

  • Excellent IT skills, including use of databases and MS Office.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills as Attendance Officer.

  • Ability to work with sensitivity and confidentiality.

  • Good organisational skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

  • Knowledge of safeguarding and data protection procedures (desirable).
