Job description

We are seeking a reliable and proactive School Caretaker to help maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for our pupils, staff, and visitors. This role is vital to the smooth day-to-day running of the school and would suit someone practical, trustworthy, and committed to high standards. Beginning September 2025.

Duties as Caretaker:

 

  • Open and close the school premises daily (including alarm setting and security checks).

  • Carry out routine maintenance, repairs, and minor decorating tasks.

  • Ensure the site is safe, clean, and well maintained (e.g. clearing walkways, emptying bins, managing heating systems).

  • Monitor and manage stock of cleaning and maintenance supplies.

  • Liaise with contractors and oversee any on-site works.

  • Undertake basic groundskeeping duties.

  • Support with setting up furniture or equipment for school events and assemblies.

  • Ensure compliance with health and safety, fire safety, and safeguarding procedures.

Ideal Caretaker:

 

  • Previous caretaking, site maintenance, or similar experience preferred.

  • A good level of DIY skills (e.g. basic plumbing, painting, carpentry).

  • Awareness of health and safety and safeguarding practices in schools.

  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and manage time effectively.

  • Flexibility to work split shifts or occasional evenings/weekends if needed as Caretaker.

  • Trustworthy, physically fit, and approachable with a strong sense of responsibility.
