General Cover Teacher
Job description
We are seeking a flexible and dependable General Cover Teacher to join a supportive school community. Beginning September 2025.
Duties as a General Cover Teacher:
Provide high-quality classroom cover across a range of subjects and year groups in the absence of the regular teacher.
Deliver pre-prepared lesson plans and ensure continuity of learning for all pupils.
Manage classroom behaviour in line with the school’s policies and maintain a positive learning environment.
Adapt quickly to teach different subjects and age ranges as required (usually KS3 and KS4).
Ensure pupils remain on task, complete set work, and follow the school’s expectations.
Record attendance and report any issues or concerns to relevant staff.
Communicate effectively with teachers, support staff, and senior leaders.
Ideal General Cover Teacher:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
Ability to teach confidently across multiple subjects and key stages.
Strong classroom management skills.
Excellent communication and organisational skills as a General Cover Teacher.
Flexible, adaptable, and professional approach to teaching.
Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
Previous cover or supply teaching experience is desirable but not essential.
