Job description

Learning Mentor – 1 day a week, long-term temporary position starting as soon as possible

This is a rewarding opportunity for a Learning Mentor to support pupils in a school where leaders are ambitious for all learners and provide a safe, inclusive environment. Staff are well supported and share high expectations for behaviour and achievement. Pupils are respectful, enjoy learning, and benefit from a curriculum that promotes both academic and personal development.

Duties as Learning Mentor:

  • Provide one-to-one and small group mentoring for pupils with social, emotional, or mental health needs
  • Support pupils in developing coping strategies and building resilience
  • Work closely with teaching staff, SENCOs, and external agencies to implement support plans
  • Monitor and record pupil progress and well-being
  • Deliver structured interventions and emotional literacy programmes
  • Promote positive behaviour and engagement in learning
  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold safeguarding responsibilities

Ideal Learning Mentor:

  • Holds a qualification in psychology or a related field
  • Experience working with children or young people with mental health needs
  • Background in counselling, mentoring, or therapeutic support roles
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills as a Learning Mentor
  • Empathetic, patient, and able to build trust with pupils
  • Confident working independently and as part of a team
  • Committed to safeguarding and promoting pupil well-being
