Job description

An Ofsted Good school in Barnet are currently looking to recruit a dedicated and diligent teacher of Science and Physics to teach from KS3-5, guiding students through their GCSE and the school’s first set of A-level exams whilst imparting wisdom and passion for those particles, galaxies and forces to this already well-motivated bunch of young people. This opportunity is open to teachers available after Easter or from September 2019, so if you’re yet to resign you can still apply to this position in the meantime; this post can be either permanent right away or temp-perm.

Behaviour at the school is generally good, although previous supply teachers have found some students quite challenging to manage – an issue which we have identified as a teething one as the school is still relatively new and in the process of expanding. Having said that, students are well supported by a strong pastoral team and there is a good level of trust throughout the school. The senior leaders are keen to have Science at the forefront of an academically strong sixth form department and have recognised Physics as a crucial subject in recognising this plan.

The salary offered is on the Main Pay Scale, though UPS teachers are also encouraged to apply – the department is growing and would suit a Science and Physics NQT looking for a supportive team of Science experts to complete their induction year, whilst also being perfect for an experienced educator looking to work with dedicated teachers and students alike in a new and exciting environment.

As a Science and Physics teacher at this school you will be working within a department that has been rated very highly on more than one occasion and although the resources themselves are currently not top of the range, the plans to move into a new school building ensure that the Science department will soon have access to some first-rate equipment developed at the forefront of innovation.

Candidates will be subject to a variety of checks including an enhanced DBS check, full references including your most recent employer and eligibility to work in the UK. Step Teachers are fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment.

Unlike other agencies, Step Teachers are more than happy to process your pay via PAYE – you will not be forced to go with an Umbrella Company.

If you, or someone you know might be interested in this opportunity to teach high-achieving, dedicated students about the wonderful world of Science and Physics, send an email over and we’ll get in touch or send some vouchers over as a thank you for recommending friends to us.
