Job description

A school in Abingdon is seeking a reflective and passionate Religious Education and Philosophy Teacher to join their humanities team. This is an exciting opportunity to guide students in exploring world religions, ethical issues, and philosophical thinking that promotes critical enquiry and respectful discussion. Starting September 2025.

Duties as Religious Education Teacher:

 

  • Teach Religious Education and Philosophy across Key Stage 3, 4 and 5

  • Deliver engaging and thought-provoking lessons that promote curiosity, reflection, and debate

  • Develop schemes of work that align with curriculum standards and current world issues

  • Support students’ personal, moral and spiritual development

  • Take part in wider school life, including assemblies, trips, and enrichment opportunities

Ideal Religious Studies Teacher:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent

  • A degree in Theology, Philosophy, Religious Studies, or a closely related subject

  • Strong subject knowledge across major world religions and philosophical ideas

  • Ability to foster open, inclusive classroom dialogue

  • A positive, student-centred teaching approach

  • A commitment to academic excellence and whole-child development
