Are you a passionate Science Technician looking for a new opportunity? Our client school in Loughton is seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic Science Technician to join them part-time starting after the Easter holidays

Are you interested in joining an exceptional Science Department within a school that prioritizes its staff? We are seeking a Science Technician to join our welcoming team in our state-of-the-art Science Laboratories. This role will primarily involve providing support to the Chemistry Department.

Science Technician Role:

To aid teachers in delivering high-quality education to all students and to help achieve the goals of both the school and respective departments. Technicians are expected to be familiar with school policies, particularly those concerning Health and Safety, students, and staffing. They should possess knowledge of legal regulations regarding the use of scientific equipment and materials, especially those that pose potential risks to students and staff.

 

 Science Technician Responsibilities:

  • Ensure efficient preparation and organization of equipment for lessons as needed.
  • Clean equipment and laboratories after each lesson and address any chemical spillages promptly.
  • Safely store and utilize laboratory equipment.
  • Assist in preparing lesson materials across all Science subjects.
  • Coordinate with the Senior Science Technician regarding curriculum area needs and operations.
  • Handle routine photocopying of worksheets when necessary.
  • Aid supply teachers and students in setting up equipment.
  • Collaborate with building services staff to address potential health and safety hazards, such as gas or fume issues.
  • Assist in maintaining the safe conduct of students in the curriculum area.
  • Maintain accurate records of poisons, flammable liquids, alcohol storage, and radioactive sources.
  • Dispose of waste chemicals and biological materials safely.
  • Provide remedial first aid as needed.
  • Conduct basic safety checks.
  • Repair, maintain, and, if needed, construct or arrange the construction of equipment.
  • Inspect materials before and after lessons and advise teachers on apparatus issues.
  • Ensure standard risk assessments accompany equipment/chemicals.
  • Assume particular responsibility for assigned individual laboratories under the guidance of the Senior Science Technician.
  • Fulfill any other duties reasonably required by the Headteacher or Curriculum Coordinator, commensurate with the position's grade.
  • Contribute to the collection and entry of student data.

 Qualifications:

  • Enhanced up-to-date DBS.
  • Formal qualifications in Science and prior laboratory experience are advantageous, along with a solid understanding of Chemistry.
