Job description
SEMH Teaching Assistant – Full-time, long-term temporary role starting as soon as possible
This is a rewarding opportunity for a SEMH Teaching Assistant to support pupils in an Alternative Provision setting, both on-site and through outreach. The school is committed to creating a nurturing and inclusive environment where pupils feel safe, supported, and motivated to succeed. Staff work collaboratively to ensure high standards of teaching and pastoral care, with a strong focus on individual progress and emotional well-being.
Duties as SEMH Teaching Assistant:
- Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs
- Assist in the delivery of tailored learning activities and interventions
- Support pupils in managing behaviour and developing coping strategies
- Work closely with teaching staff, SENCOs and external agencies
- Participate in outreach work to support pupils in alternative settings
- Maintain accurate records and contribute to pupil progress reviews
- Promote a positive and inclusive learning environment
Ideal SEMH Teaching Assistant:
- Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs
- Knowledge of behaviour management strategies and trauma-informed practice
- Ability to build strong, trusting relationships with pupils and staff
- A flexible and proactive approach to supporting learning
- Must hold a valid UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle
- Relevant qualifications in education, child development or support work are desirable
