Job description

SEMH Teaching Assistant – Full-time, temp to perm starting as soon as possible

This specialist provision offers a supportive and structured environment for pupils with social, emotional, and mental health needs. Leaders prioritise staff development and ensure that behaviour support strategies are embedded across the school. Duties as SEMH Teaching Assistant:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs
  • Implement behaviour strategies and individual support plans
  • Use Team Teach techniques to manage challenging behaviour safely and effectively
  • Support pupils in managing emotional regulation and social interactions
  • Monitor progress and contribute to EHCP reviews and reports
  • Promote inclusion and encourage positive relationships within the school community

Ideal SEMH Teaching Assistant:

  • Holds relevant qualifications or experience in SEMH support
  • Has valid Team Teach behaviour management training
  • Demonstrates strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
  • Is confident supporting pupils both 1:1 and in small groups
  • Shows empathy, patience, and a proactive approach to challenges
  • Has a commitment to safeguarding and promoting pupil welfare
