Job description
We are seeking a caring, patient and enthusiastic SEN 1:1 Support Assistant to provide tailored support for a child with special educational needs. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful impact by helping a pupil to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally within the school environment. Starting September 2025.
Duties as a SEN 121 Support Assistant:
Work closely with a named pupil with an EHCP to provide consistent, individualised support throughout the school day.
Support the child’s access to learning, including adapting resources and activities to meet their specific needs.
Promote their independence, self-confidence and inclusion within the classroom and wider school life.
Implement strategies recommended by external professionals (e.g. speech and language therapists, educational psychologists).
Build a positive, trusting relationship with the pupil and communicate effectively with the class teacher, SENDCo and parents/carers.
Support with personal care or emotional regulation if required.
Ideal SEN 121 Support Assistant:
Experience working with children with additional needs, particularly on a 1:1 basis (desirable).
A calm, nurturing and flexible approach.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills as a SEN 121 Support Assistant.
An understanding of SEND and safeguarding practices.
Commitment to promoting inclusion and high expectations for all children.
Relevant qualifications or willingness to undertake training (e.g. autism awareness, Team Teach, ELSA).
