Job description

Position: SEN Teaching Assistant Location: Norwich Start Date: ASAP Duration: Full-time until Easter, with potential for extension

About the Role: We are seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to provide tailored support to a Year 2 pupil with complex ASD and limited verbal communication skills. As a key member of the team, you will work closely with the pupil on a one-to-one basis, implementing individualized learning plans and providing assistance to facilitate their academic, social, and emotional development.

Key Responsibilities of an SEN Teaching Assistant:

  • Establishing a supportive and nurturing rapport with the pupil.
  • Implementing strategies to support communication and social interaction.
  • Assisting with academic activities, including literacy and numeracy tasks.
  • Promoting independence and self-confidence in the pupil.
  • Collaborating with the class teacher and SENCO to ensure the pupil's needs are met effectively.
  • Monitoring progress and providing regular feedback to the school's SEN team.

Requirements for an SEN Teaching Assistant:

  • Previous experience working with children with ASD, preferably in a 1:1 capacity.
  • Strong understanding of ASD and strategies for supporting pupils with complex needs.
  • Patient, empathetic, and adaptable approach to working with children.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Relevant qualifications or training in special educational needs (desirable but not essential).
