Job description

We are seeking a caring and proactive SEND Teaching Assistant to join a supportive school on a long-term temporary basis until the end of the academic year, starting as soon as possible.

Join a school where pupils are enthusiastic learners, supported by a safe and nurturing environment that promotes respect, responsibility, and resilience. With high expectations for academic achievement and behaviour, pupils thrive across a broad curriculum and enjoy a wide range of enrichment opportunities—from sports and choir to community projects and leadership roles. Staff prioritise pupil well-being, ensuring every child feels heard, valued, and ready to succeed.

This role involves providing 1:1 support to a pupil with ADHD/ADD, helping them to thrive both academically and emotionally. The pupil is energetic, enjoys physical activity, and benefits from a calm, understanding adult who can offer reassurance and space when needed.

Duties as a SEND Teaching Assistant:

  • Provide consistent 1:1 support for a pupil with ADHD/ADD.

  • Offer emotional reassurance, particularly when the child becomes upset or anxious (e.g. around injuries).

  • Support learning and engagement through structured routines and clear expectations.

  • Encourage positive behaviour and social interaction in a calm, patient manner.

  • Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to implement strategies that promote progress and wellbeing.

  • Maintain a supportive, flexible approach that prioritises the child’s individual needs.

Ideal SEND Teaching Assistant:

  • Have previous experience supporting children with SEND, particularly ADHD/ADD.

  • Be sporty, active, and able to engage the pupil through movement-based activities.

  • Demonstrate calmness, patience, and empathy in all interactions.

  • Understand the importance of giving the pupil space when required while maintaining consistent boundaries.

  • Be committed to promoting inclusion and supporting the child’s academic and emotional development as the SEND Teaching Assistant.
