Job description

SEND Teaching Assistant – Full-time, temporary position from as soon as possible until December 2025

We are seeking a committed SEND Teaching Assistant to join a forward-thinking and inclusive school environment. The school provides a calm and purposeful atmosphere where pupils feel safe and supported. Staff have high expectations and work together to ensure pupils achieve well and develop strong personal and social skills. Leaders are ambitious for all pupils, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities, and provide effective support to help them succeed.

Duties as SEND Teaching Assistant:

  • Support pupils with a range of special educational needs in both classroom and one-to-one settings
  • Assist the class teacher in delivering differentiated learning activities
  • Promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation strategies
  • Help create a structured and inclusive learning environment
  • Work closely with the SENCO and other support staff to implement individual education plans
  • Provide feedback on pupil progress and behaviour to teaching staff
  • Support pupils during transitions and break times

Ideal SEND Teaching Assistant:

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEND
  • Strong understanding of behaviour management and inclusive practices
  • Ability to build trusting relationships with pupils and staff
  • Resilient, patient and empathetic approach
  • Relevant qualifications or training in education, psychology or youth work (desirable)
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one
