SEND Teaching Assistant – Full-time, long-term temporary and ongoing role starting as soon as possible


This PRU provides a calm, structured, and supportive environment where pupils benefit from clear routines, strong pastoral care, and adults who understand their individual needs. Staff work collaboratively to uphold high expectations, helping pupils feel safe, motivated, and able to re-engage with learning. Pupils respond positively to patient, consistent approaches that encourage emotional regulation, confidence, and steady progress.

Duties as SEND Teaching Assistant:

  • Provide full-time 1:1 support for a 13-year-old pupil
  • Support learning, communication, and engagement using adapted strategies
  • Assist with emotional regulation and behaviour management in a PRU setting
  • Build a calm, trusting relationship to encourage participation and reduce anxiety
  • Deliver individualised tasks and help reinforce learning through repetition and structure
  • Provide group support where required across PRU classrooms
  • Implement behaviour plans and personalised learning programmes
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, HLTA staff, and pastoral teams
  • Uphold safeguarding expectations and prioritise pupil welfare

Ideal SEND Teaching Assistant:

  • Prior experience as a Teaching Assistant is essential
  • Confident, resilient, and calm when supporting complex SEND and challenging behaviour
  • Experience in PRU or SEMH/SEND settings is highly desirable
  • Suitable for a HLTA, unqualified teacher, or experienced TA seeking non-teaching responsibilities
  • Strong understanding of SEND strategies and developmental needs
  • Able to build safe, consistent relationships with vulnerable young people
  • Proactive, patient, and adaptable in fast‑paced environments
  • Dedicated to safeguarding and promoting pupil well‑being
