Job description

Ryes Education and Children’s Homes is a therapeutic specialist provider of Care and Education to children and young people whose needs range from ASC, EBD, LD through to Challenging Behaviour and other complex needs. They have homes and schools in both Suffolk and Norfolk.

They welcome both residential and day placements and pride themselves on their ability to 'reach' the child and build mutually trusting relationships, which enables young people to find new ways to express themselves and be heard. As an organisation the Ryes use the Secure Base Model (developed by Gillian Schofield & Mary Beek, University of East Anglia) underpinned by attachment theory to provide a framework for caregiving and education.

Step Teachers have been asked to help source a Teacher of Science & Maths for their school in Assington Sudbury. The school currently has 32 pupils (soon to rise to 36) ranging from age 11- 18 years.

Your role will be to provide strong, nurturing boundaries and to create a safe environment mixed with fun and imagination whilst teaching. The schools children usually arrive emotionally confused with challenging behaviours but as they begin to trust and feel safe their behaviours begin to change and their confidence/ self-belief grows.

We can interview you remotely from home via your smart phone as the safety of our teachers is paramount.  Full in-house support and training is provided by the school.

Candidates will be subject to a variety of checks including an enhanced DBS check, full references including your most recent employer and eligibility to work in the UK. Step Teachers are fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment.

Unlike other agencies, Step Teachers are more than happy to process your pay via PAYE – you will not be forced to go with an Umbrella Company.

Get special perks for free while working PAYE with Step Teachers such as a qualified GP 24/7 with webcam consultations, examinations and email prescriptions. In addition to a confidential helpline for stress related issues.

Step Teachers are an agency listed as an approved supplier on the Crown Commercial Service. This is a new framework for schools to use, ensuring they have access to reputable agencies whom meet certain safeguarding and recruitment guidelines. The DfE are heavily marketing this service across schools and we would strongly suggest making sure you are registered with a CCS approved agency moving forwards. Registering with Step Teachers ensures you are working for a trusted partner of the DfE.
