Job description

Year 1 Teaching Assistant – Full-time, long-term temporary role starting as soon as possible

We are seeking a dedicated Year 1 Teaching Assistant to join a school where pupils thrive in a positive and inclusive environment. Staff have high expectations and work collaboratively to ensure pupils make strong progress. Leaders are committed to providing a broad and balanced curriculum and prioritise safeguarding and pupil well-being. Pupils enjoy learning and benefit from clear routines and supportive relationships.

Duties as Year 1 Teaching Assistant:

  • Support Year 1 pupils in both classroom and one-to-one settings
  • Assist the class teacher in delivering engaging and differentiated learning activities
  • Promote positive behaviour and implement strong behaviour management strategies
  • Help create a calm and structured learning environment
  • Work closely with the SENCO and other support staff to meet individual needs
  • Provide feedback on pupil progress and behaviour to teaching staff
  • Support pupils during transitions and break times

Ideal Year 1 Teaching Assistant:

  • Experience working with KS1 pupils in an educational setting
  • Strong behaviour management skills and ability to maintain a positive classroom environment
  • Ability to build trusting relationships with pupils and staff
  • Resilient, patient and empathetic approach
  • Relevant qualifications or training in education or child development (desirable)
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one
