Job description

We are seeking a caring, skilled, and enthusiastic Primary Transition Teacher to support their pupils through the vital transition from primary to secondary education. This is a key role designed to ensure a smooth academic and emotional journey for students as they move into Year 7, with a particular focus on literacy, numeracy, and building confidence.

You will work closely with Year 6 and Year 7 staff, pastoral teams, and SENCOs to deliver tailored teaching to small groups and individuals, ensuring pupils make a confident and successful start to their secondary journey. This role is ideal for a primary-trained teacher with a passion for supporting early secondary learners. Beginning June 2025.

Duties as Primary Transition Teacher:

  • Plan and deliver engaging lessons to Year 7 students, with a focus on bridging gaps in English and maths.

  • Work with vulnerable or lower-attaining pupils to build core skills and confidence.

  • Coordinate transition activities with feeder primary schools, including visits and pupil profiling.

  • Support the social and emotional needs of students new to secondary education.

  • Develop and implement individual learning plans in collaboration with SEN and pastoral teams.

  • Maintain regular communication with parents/carers to ensure a joined-up approach to support.

  • Assist in the design of the Year 6 to Year 7 transition programme.

  • Monitor and assess pupil progress, adapting teaching to maximise impact.

Ideal Primary Transition Teacher:

  • A qualified primary teacher (QTS essential) with strong knowledge of KS2 curriculum.

  • Experience supporting pupils with varying needs and abilities.

  • A nurturing, adaptable teaching style that promotes confidence and resilience.

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills as a Primary Transition Teacher.

  • A commitment to safeguarding, inclusion, and raising achievement.
