Job description

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Secondary Teaching Assistant to join a supportive team. This is a fantastic opportunity to help older students reach their potential and to gain valuable experience working across a range of subjects and year groups. Beginning September 2025.

Duties as a Secondary Teaching Assistant:

 

  • Support teachers in delivering lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4.

  • Work with individual students and small groups to reinforce learning, boost confidence, and close gaps in understanding.

  • Assist with differentiated tasks to ensure all students can access the curriculum.

  • Provide additional support to students with special educational needs (SEN) or English as an additional language (EAL) where required.

  • Help maintain a focused, positive, and safe classroom environment.

  • Support students during assessments, exams, and revision sessions.

  • Supervise students during break times, trips, and school activities as needed.

  • Work collaboratively with teachers, the SENCO, and other staff to support student progress.

Ideal Secondary Teaching Assistant:

 

  • Previous experience working with young people in a secondary school setting is desirable.

  • A good standard of literacy and numeracy (minimum GCSE English and Maths or equivalent).

  • An understanding of the secondary curriculum is an advantage.

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills as a Secondary Teaching Assistant.

  • A patient, flexible, and supportive approach.

  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all students.
