Job description

This school is a specialist provision dedicated to supporting children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. We are seeking a resilient, compassionate and creative teacher who can build strong relationships and provide a consistent, nurturing approach to learning. Beginning September 2025.

Duties as a SEMH Teacher:

 

  • Deliver engaging and differentiated lessons tailored to the individual needs of pupils with SEMH

  • Create a safe, predictable and structured classroom environment that supports emotional regulation

  • Develop and implement behaviour and learning support strategies in line with pupils' EHCPs

  • Foster positive relationships with pupils, built on trust, consistency, and respect

  • Work closely with a multi-disciplinary team including teaching assistants, therapists and external professionals

  • Monitor and assess pupil progress, using appropriate frameworks and recording systems

  • Communicate effectively with parents/carers and other stakeholders

  • Contribute to the wider life of the school including enrichment activities, therapy-based approaches, and team meetings

  • Uphold safeguarding and child protection procedures at all times

Ideal SEMH Teacher:

 

  • Hold QTS or equivalent, with experience teaching pupils with SEMH or in alternative provision (AP), PRUs, or specialist settings

  • Be committed to trauma-informed practice and inclusive education

  • Have a flexible, empathetic and consistent approach to behaviour and engagement

  • Be confident in using a range of strategies to support emotional wellbeing and resilience

  • Demonstrate strong communication, teamwork and problem-solving skills as an SEMH Teacher.

  • Be passionate about making a difference in the lives of vulnerable young people
