Job description

Are you an experienced SEN teacher looking for a role near Norwich?

Our Norwich office is working closely with an alternative provision school that is based on the outskirts of Norwich. We are looking for an experienced SEND teacher to join their team on a long-term supply basis.  This position could be permanent for the right candidate.  The classes are small groups that have a wide range of abilities.

Working with students who have additional needs can be a challenging but ultimately rewarding career path.  These students may also have been more affected than others due to recent events, where their day-to-day structure has been severely impacted.  The skills learned in this line of work can be translated across to many other sectors in the education system.

Some of the skills and requirements of an alternative provision teacher will be:

  • A relevant teaching qualification such as a PGCE

  • Strong classroom management and the ability to engage with students who struggle in a mainstream setting

  • Able to learn from others with pre-existing rapport with the individual students

  • Willing to share good practice with others

The staff at this school understand the challenges of working in this environment and are supportive to both the learners, support staff, and teachers.  Safeguarding is a main priority to ensure a secure place for all.

If this sounds like an opportunity for you, we would love to hear from you.

Candidates will be subject to a variety of checks including an enhanced DBS check, full references including your most recent employer, and eligibility to work in the UK. Step Teachers are fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment.

Step Teachers are an agency listed as an approved supplier on the Crown Commercial Service.  This is a new framework for schools to use, ensuring they have access to reputable agencies that meet certain safeguarding and recruitment guidelines.  The DfE is heavily marketing this service across schools and we would strongly suggest making sure you are registered with a CCS-approved agency moving forwards.  Registering with Step Teachers ensures you are working for a trusted partner of the DfE.
