Job description

Do you have experience working with children who have behavior and complex learning issues? Step teachers are currently working with a Trust which provides high-quality education and ensures progress for all children and young people through a high-quality network of alternative provision and specialist academies. This trust has numerous long-term and daily opportunities available in King's Lynn.

We are looking for SEND teachers who can cover a range of subjects and who are interested in either short-term full-time roles or permanent roles.

The pupils have a range of needs. Therefore, it is essential the SEND teacher can possess an empathetic approach to the learners. You will need to be aware of boundaries and also aware of external issues that may appear in the classroom from time to time.

Our ideal SEND Teacher will have experience within this setting or would be able to demonstrate examples of experience gained within a mainstream sector. You will also be able to demonstrate the following attributes;

  • Have a degree from a United Kingdom university at 2:1 or above.
  • Hold QTS or equivalent
  • You will need confidence and a positive ‘can-do attitude and philosophy.
  • You will have a good understanding of Special Educational Needs and Educational Inclusion, and the needs of the more able and talented.
  • You will have excellent classroom management strategies that are robust and flexible and will be seen as central to the performance of you and your pupils.

Candidates will be subject to a variety of checks including an enhanced DBS check, full references including your most recent employer, and eligibility to work in the UK. Step Teachers are fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment. Unlike other agencies, Step Teachers are more than happy to process your pay via PAYE – you will not be forced to go with an Umbrella Company.

Step Teachers are an agency listed as an approved supplier on the Crown Commercial Service.  This is a new framework for schools to use, ensuring they have access to reputable agencies that meet certain safeguarding and recruitment guidelines.  The DfE are heavily marketing this service across schools and we would strongly suggest making sure you are registered with a CCS-approved agency moving forwards.  Registering with Step Teachers ensures you are working for a trusted partner of the DfE.
