Job description

We are looking for a SEND Teaching Assistant to join a supportive school on a long-term, ongoing basis, starting as soon as possible.

Pupils are happy, feel safe, and enjoy learning in a nurturing environment where they are well supported. Strong relationships with staff and a flexible, ambitious curriculum help pupils re-engage with education and make good progress. Confidence, wellbeing, and attendance improve, preparing pupils well for their next steps.

The successful candidate will have experience working with male students who present with SEMH needs and challenging behaviour.

Duties as a SEND Teaching Assistant:

 

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for students with SEMH and challenging behaviour.

  • Help create a structured, nurturing, and positive learning environment.

  • Support teachers in implementing behaviour management strategies.

  • Promote social, emotional, and academic development through patience and consistency.

  • Work closely with pastoral and SEN staff to ensure individual needs are met.

Ideal SEND Teaching Assistant:

 

  • Experience working with students with SEMH and challenging behaviour, particularly male pupils.

  • Strong behaviour management skills and a calm, resilient approach.

  • A passion for supporting young people with additional needs as a SEND Teaching Assistant.

  • Ability to build positive and trusting relationships with students.
