We are currently working with a top-rated specialist school in Oldham that is seeking a Psychology graduate to join their dedicated team as a Teaching Assistant. This role involves supporting students with a range of additional needs, including Autism and social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) challenges.

 

Role Overview:

  • Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant (Psychology Graduate)
  • Location: Oldham – specialist secondary setting for students with SEN including Autism and SEMH
  • Start Date: September 2025 (Immediate start)
  • Contract: Full-time, Monday to Friday (8:30am – 3:30pm)
  • Pay: £95 per day (PAYE – no umbrella fees)

About School & Your Role:

  • You’ll support secondary-aged students on a 1:1 and group basis
  • Pupils may present with SEMH needs, Autism, and cognitive learning challenges
  • The role includes encouraging academic, emotional and behavioural development
  • Implement and support positive behaviour strategies and personalised learning approaches
  • Work closely with teachers, school leaders, families, and external professionals such as social workers and psychologists
  • Contribute to safeguarding through appropriate reporting to the DSL
  • Class sizes are small (max 10 students), with high adult-to-pupil ratios
  • Empathy, diversity, and respectful relationships
  • Easily accessible by public transport with free on-site parking available

Requirements:

  • CV covering a full 10-year history (where applicable)
  • Legal right to work in the UK and current proof of address
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
  • Minimum of two references covering the last 2 years, evidencing at least 3 months of child-related experience
  • Overseas Police Check if you’ve lived abroad
  • You must be committed, reliable, and have a genuinely empathetic and proactive approach to supporting young people
