Temp‑to‑Perm Opportunity!

We're recruiting on behalf of a specialist SEMH provision in High Peak for a Secondary Learning Mentor.

Are you looking for a rewarding role where you can support secondary‑aged students navigating emotional, social, or behavioural challenges — helping them rediscover a positive relationship with learning?

Secondary Learning Mentor (SEMH Focus)
Location: High Peak, Derbyshire
Daily Rate: £90–£110/day

Equal pay to permanent staff from Week 13

Paid via PAYE by Step Teachers — no umbrella companies!

Contract: Temp‑to‑Perm, Full time
Start Date: ASAP

This unique setting—recently designated as an alternative provision academy — supports pupils up to Key Stage 4 in small cohorts. It’s based in a serene part of High Peak and forms part of a multi‑site structure designed specifically to re-engage young people who have struggled in mainstream education. The environment is carefully structured, with small classes of around 10 students, high adult support ratios, and a tranquil setting aimed at encouraging positive behavioural change.

Benefits To You:

  • Transition to permanent pay scale after 13 weeks.
  • Free CPD opportunities through reputable education providers.
  • Step Perks – discounts on shops, gyms, cinema & 24hr online GP access.
  • Full support from a consultant with 13 years’ local experience.
  • Referral Bonus – Earn £100 in vouchers (T&Cs apply)

What They Offer You

  • Integration into a supportive trust environment that values professional growth, wellbeing, and high‑quality provision.
  • A meaningful opportunity in a setting known for its inclusive, reformative work and strong pastoral ethos.
  • A calm, well-resourced environment where your insight and dedication will directly influence young people’s trajectories.

Why You’ll Love Working There

  • The core mission is to rebuild trust and motivation through collaboration with pupils, parents, schools, and community partners—enabling reintegration or bespoke pathways toward education, training, or employment.
  • The sites are small and supportive, offering high staffing levels to nurture emotional resilience and academic readiness in a personalised and inclusive setting.
  • The academy earned a Centre of Excellence Inclusion Quality Mark in mid‑2024, reflecting its inclusive ethos and commitment to continuous improvement.

What Makes Their Curriculum Stand Out

  • There’s an emphasis on tailored, multi-pathway learning — balancing academic, vocational, personal development, and employability skills. Pupils work toward accredited outcomes appropriate to their individual readiness.
  • The curriculum fosters resilience, self-regulation, literacy, numeracy, and wellbeing, with enrichment opportunities like Duke of Edinburgh–style experiences and ASDAN short courses.
  • Learning groups are small (8–12 pupils), with personalised pastoral support including dedicated keyworkers for each learner.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide targeted one-to-one and small-group support for secondary students facing SEMH-related challenges.
  • Support their engagement, emotional regulation, and smooth transition in or back to consistent learning.
  • Collaborate with teaching and pastoral teams to implement personalised interventions and behaviour plans.
  • Foster trust, celebrate progress, and help students develop resilience, confidence, and positive relationships.

What You’ll Need to Apply:

  • A CV detailing up to 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Proof of Right to Work in the UK and a current address.
  • Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one).
  • References covering the past two years (at least one must be from an educational context).
  • Prior experience with SEMH in children or young adults.
