Job description

This school is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to support learning across Key Stages 3 and 4. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of young people by providing targeted support within the classroom and contributing to the overall learning environment of the school. Beginning September 2025.

Duties as a Secondary Teaching Assistant:

 

  • Support students in accessing learning activities under the guidance of teaching staff.

  • Work closely with individuals or small groups to reinforce learning and promote engagement.

  • Assist in the preparation of teaching resources and the organisation of the learning environment.

  • Provide in-class support in a range of subjects, helping to clarify instructions and encourage participation.

  • Work with pupils with additional needs, including those with SEND, EAL, or behavioural challenges.

  • Monitor student progress and provide feedback to teachers.

  • Promote positive behaviour and help maintain a safe and supportive classroom atmosphere.

  • Supervise pupils during breaktimes, lunchtimes, and transitions as required.

  • Support the school’s safeguarding, behaviour, and inclusion policies at all times.

  • Attend relevant meetings and participate in ongoing professional development.

Ideal Secondary Teaching Assistant:

 

  • Have experience working with secondary-aged students, ideally in an educational setting.

  • Be patient, supportive, and committed to helping students succeed.

  • Have good communication and interpersonal skills as a Secondary Teaching Assistant.

  • Be able to work flexibly as part of a team and show initiative.

  • Hold relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant Certificate) or be willing to train.

  • Demonstrate an understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
