Job description

We are looking for a caring and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a supportive school environment, working with pupils who have Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. This is a rewarding role where you will help learners overcome barriers, build confidence, and achieve their full potential. Beginning ASAP.

Duties as a SEMH Teaching Assistant:

 

  • Supporting pupils with SEMH needs in both 1:1 and small group settings

  • Promoting positive behaviour and developing strategies to manage challenges

  • Assisting the teacher with classroom activities, resources, and planning

  • Encouraging social and emotional development through mentoring and guidance

  • Building strong, trusting relationships with pupils to help them engage with learning

Ideal SEMH Teaching Assistant:

  • Have experience supporting pupils with SEMH or behavioural needs

  • Be patient, empathetic, and able to remain calm under pressure

  • Hold a relevant qualification (e.g. Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant or equivalent)

  • Be adaptable and proactive in a variety of classroom settings as a SEMH Teaching Assistant.

  • Have a genuine passion for making a difference in young people’s lives
