Job description

We are seeking a dedicated and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a supportive school environment on a temporary to permanent basis starting in October 2025.

Duties as an SEMH Teaching Assistant:

 

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs

  • Assist in planning and delivering personalised learning and behaviour support strategies

  • Promote emotional regulation, resilience, and positive behaviour

  • Support teaching staff in maintaining an engaging, inclusive, and structured learning environment

  • Build trusting relationships with pupils to support their emotional well-being and self-esteem

  • Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral teams, and external professionals

  • Contribute to creating a safe and nurturing atmosphere that encourages participation and progress

Ideal SEMH Teaching Assistant:

 

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH or additional learning needs

  • Relevant Teaching Assistant qualification (Level 2 or 3 preferred)

  • Excellent communication and behaviour management skills as an SEMH Teaching Assistant.

  • A calm, empathetic, and proactive approach

  • Primary and Secondary Teaching Assistants are welcome to apply, depending on skill set and experience
