SEND Teaching Assistant – Full-time, long-term temporary and ongoing role starting ASAP


This school provides a calm, structured and supportive learning environment where pupils benefit from clear routines, caring adults and teaching that helps them feel safe and understood. Staff work closely together to maintain high expectations, and pupils respond well to patient, consistent approaches that encourage emotional regulation, confidence and steady progress. Pupils with SEMH needs are well supported through strong relationships and purposeful interventions.

Duties as SEND Teaching Assistant:

  • Provide full-time SEMH support for pupils across the school
  • Work 1:1 and in small groups with pupils who present emotional and behavioural challenges
  • Use de-escalation and regulation strategies to promote engagement
  • Assist with learning tasks, modelling and reinforcing key skills
  • Implement personalised behaviour and learning plans
  • Support pupils during transitions, routines and unstructured times
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral teams and SEND staff
  • Uphold safeguarding expectations and prioritise pupil welfare

Ideal SEND Teaching Assistant:

  • SEMH/EBD experience is essential
  • Confident supporting pupils with challenging behaviour
  • Calm, patient, resilient and able to build strong, trusting relationships
  • Skilled in behaviour management and emotional regulation techniques
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Able to follow guidance while using initiative when appropriate
  • Reliable, proactive and committed to supporting pupil development
