SEMH Teaching Assistant – Flexible short-term and long-term opportunities available immediately
These flexible opportunities are ideal for support staff who enjoy variety and want to make a positive impact across different school settings. You will be supporting pupils in Hammersmith and the surrounding areas, helping them develop emotional resilience, positive relationships, and constructive learning behaviours.
Duties as SEMH Teaching Assistant:
- Provide one-to-one and small-group support for pupils with social, emotional, and mental health needs
- Assist teachers in delivering adapted and engaging learning activities
- Help implement personalised behaviour and emotional regulation strategies
- Promote positive communication, confidence, and independence
- Support pupils in managing challenging behaviours in line with school policies
- Encourage participation, self-esteem, and constructive peer interactions
- Monitor pupil progress and communicate observations to staff
- Contribute to wider school life during longer-term placements
Ideal SEMH Teaching Assistant:
- Experience supporting pupils with SEMH needs
- Understanding of behaviour management and de‑escalation strategies
- Calm, patient, and empathetic approach
- Strong communication and relationship‑building skills
- Adaptable across different classrooms and key stages
- Professional, reliable, and proactive in supporting teachers and pupils
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting pupil welfare
- Willingness to undertake SEMH or behaviour‑focused professional development
