Job description

We are seeking a dedicated Special Needs Specialist for a long-term temporary position, starting October 2025 and continuing on an ongoing basis. PRU experience is essential for this role.

Duties as a Special Needs Specialist:

 

  • Provide tailored support to students with a range of special educational needs

  • Develop and implement individual education plans (IEPs) in collaboration with teaching staff and parents

  • Adapt learning materials and strategies to meet individual learning requirements

  • Support the emotional, social, and academic development of students

  • Work closely with the SENCO and external agencies to ensure the best outcomes for pupils

  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and interventions

Ideal Special Needs Specialist:

 

  • Relevant qualifications in Special Educational Needs or equivalent experience

  • Proven experience working within a PRU (Pupil Referral Unit)

  • Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills

  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities

  • Empathetic, patient, and resilient approach to supporting learners with complex needs

  • Commitment to inclusive education and professional development
