Job description

Year 5 Teacher – Full time fixed term from September 2026 for 1 academic term

Are you an ambitious educator ready to lead a Year 5 cohort through a pivotal year of their primary journey? We are looking for a dedicated and energetic teacher to join a vibrant school community in Ilford, London, for a full academic year starting in September 2026.

Year 5 is a year of incredible growth - where pupils bridge the gap between lower KS2 and the final challenges of Year 6. We need a teacher who can balance high academic expectations with a creative, nurturing approach that keeps children curious and confident.

Duties as Year 5 Teacher:

  • Plan, prepare and deliver engaging lessons that support strong progress across all core subjects.
  • Ensure learning is structured and sequential, building on pupils’ existing knowledge and skills.
  • Create a positive, inclusive classroom environment with clear routines and behaviour expectations.
  • Use assessment to check understanding and adapt teaching to address misconceptions.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and support staff to ensure consistency and high-quality provision.
  • Support wider school activities where required.

Ideal Year 5 Teacher:

  • Holds QTS and has experience teaching in Key Stage 2.
  • Confident in planning and delivering lessons that challenge and support mixed-ability learners.
  • Strong understanding of assessment to inform next steps for pupils.
  • Excellent classroom management and the ability to maintain a calm, purposeful learning environment.
  • Able to build positive relationships with pupils, colleagues and families.
  • Organised, reflective and committed to high-quality teaching.
