Head of Geography – Full time, from September 2026 for 1 academic term

 

Are you a visionary educator with a passion for the natural world and the human environments that shape it? We are seeking a dynamic and ambitious Head of Geography to lead a dedicated department in Lowestoft, starting in September 2026.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced teacher looking to step into middle management or an existing Head of Department seeking a fresh challenge by the coast. You will be the driving force behind a curriculum that helps pupils understand their place in a changing global landscape—from the local Suffolk coastline to international sustainability challenges.

Duties as Head of Geography:

  • Lead the Geography department, ensuring high-quality curriculum planning and delivery.
  • Support colleagues in developing strong subject knowledge and effective teaching strategies.
  • Monitor assessment practices to identify gaps in understanding and support staff in addressing them.
  • Oversee the development of engaging schemes of work that promote curiosity and deeper understanding.
  • Model excellent classroom practice and contribute to teaching across the department.
  • Work with senior leaders to raise standards and support whole‑school initiatives.
  • Ensure provision meets the needs of all learners, including those with additional needs.
  • Contribute to departmental improvement planning and staff development.

Ideal Head of Geography:

  • Qualified teacher with strong experience teaching Geography at secondary level.
  • Proven ability to lead, inspire and support colleagues within a department.
  • Strong subject knowledge with the ability to deliver high‑quality and well‑structured lessons.
  • Confident in using assessment to identify misconceptions and adapt teaching effectively.
  • Skilled in creating an ambitious and inclusive learning environment.
  • Organised, reflective, and committed to continuous improvement.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to contribute positively to wider school life.
