Job description

We are seeking a passionate and dynamic Head of Music to lead and develop our thriving music department. The successful candidate will be an outstanding teacher with the ability to inspire pupils of all abilities and a clear vision for high-quality music education, both in the classroom and through extra-curricular opportunities. Beginning September 2025.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with strong subject knowledge and leadership potential to shape and grow the musical life of the school.

Duties as the Head of Music:

 

  • Lead the delivery of the Music curriculum across Key Stages 3–4.

  • Drive curriculum development and ensure high-quality teaching and learning in Music.

  • Manage departmental staff and resources effectively.

  • Oversee assessment, tracking, and pupil progress within the subject.

  • Lead and promote a vibrant extra-curricular music programme, including ensembles, concerts, and school productions.

  • Forge links with external organisations, peripatetic teachers and the wider community.

  • Uphold high standards of behaviour, engagement and achievement across the department.

Ideal Music Teacher:

 

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a relevant music degree.

  • A track record of excellent teaching and subject expertise.

  • Experience in leading or coordinating a subject is desirable.

  • Strong leadership, organisational and communication skills as a Music Teacher.

  • Passion for music and a commitment to enriching school life through the arts.

  • Ability to teach an instrument or lead ensembles is an advantage.

  • A reflective practitioner committed to inclusion and student wellbeing.
