SEMH Teaching Assistant – Secondary – Manchester – Step Teachers
Start: ASAP (Sept 2025) Pay: £95/day (PAYE)
Hours: Full-time Mon–Fri 8:30am–3:30pm
Contract: Temp-to-Perm for the right person
We’re working with a small SEMH high school in Manchester that supports pupils aged 11–16 with SEMH needs who may have experienced barriers to mainstream education. This role is ideal for someone resilient, patient, and committed to helping young people succeed in a structured, supportive, and nurturing environment. The school places a strong focus on safety, inclusion, positive relationships, and personal growth—ensuring every pupil has the chance to thrive.
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you’ll work with students on both a 1:1 and small group basis, supporting them with learning, behaviour regulation, and emotional development. Using strategies such as de-escalation techniques & restorative approaches, you’ll help pupils manage challenges, build confidence, and re-engage with their education. You’ll work closely with teachers, pastoral staff, and therapists in a team that prioritises wellbeing, communication, and progress for every learner.
What you’ll need to succeed:
- At least 3 months’ experience supporting young people with SEMH or additional needs.
- A calm, confident, and empathetic approach—especially under pressure
- A genuine passion for making a positive impact in the lives of young people
