Job description
We are seeking a compassionate and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to provide dedicated support to pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of young people who require additional support to engage with learning. Beginning September 2025.
Duties as an SEMH Teaching Assistant:
Support individual pupils or small groups to access the curriculum and develop social and emotional skills.
Assist the class teacher in creating a nurturing, inclusive and structured learning environment.
Implement behaviour support strategies and contribute to behaviour management plans.
Promote positive relationships with pupils, encouraging self-esteem and independence.
Liaise with teachers, SENCOs and external professionals to ensure the best possible support is provided.
Monitor pupil progress and contribute to regular reviews.
Ideal SEMH Teaching Assistant:
Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs, preferably in an educational setting.
A calm, patient and empathetic approach.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills as an SEMH Teaching Assistant.
Ability to remain professional and resilient in challenging situations.
Relevant qualifications or training in supporting SEMH
