Step Teachers Manchester are hiring for a Secondary SEMH Teaching Assistant in Bury.

This is a Temp-to-Perm role, starting ASAP at a Secondary Alternative Education Provision in Bury.

Role: Secondary SEMH Teaching Assistant at Secondary Alternative Provision in Bury.

Start date: ASAP.

Hours: Full time, Monday to Friday, 8:30am-3:30pm.

Contract: Temp-to-Perm – could move onto contract at end of 12 weeks.

Excellent pay: £90-110/day DOE for first 12 weeks.

• Paid PAYE direct via Now Education. We don’t use umbrella companies!
• Equal pay to perm staff in similar role from 13^th weeks onwards anway, if staying temp at this point.

What you’ll do:

• Support children with SEMH, challenging behaviours, and Autism in class.
• Show empathy, patience, and perseverance to pupils from vulnerable backgrounds.
• Identify triggers and use preventative and de-escalation strategies for behaviour management.
• Break down tasks and instructions for easier understanding and achievement.
• Support the wider class or other pupils as needed.
• Provide encouragement and positive reinforcement.
• Work closely with teachers, support staff, parents, and outside professionals.
• Maintain a safe, positive, inclusive, and collaborative environment.

Requirements

• CV with at least 10 years of work & education history.
• Right to Work & Proof of Address in the UK.
• DBS certificate on the Update Service (or be happy to apply for a new one).
• All references covering the last 2 years.
• Overseas Police Check (if applicable).
