Job description

SEMH Teaching Assistant – Day-to-day supply from November 2025
 
These flexible opportunities are ideal for SEMH Teaching Assistants who enjoy variety and want to make a positive impact across different school settings. SEMH experience is essential, and roles are available for immediate start.

Duties as SEMH Teaching Assistant:

  • Support pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs in mainstream and specialist settings
  • Build positive relationships and provide consistent emotional support
  • Assist with behaviour management and de-escalation strategies
  • Work closely with teachers and SENCOs to implement individual support plans
  • Encourage pupil engagement and participation in learning activities
  • Maintain a safe and inclusive learning environment
  • Uphold safeguarding and behaviour policies consistently

Ideal SEMH Teaching Assistant:

  • Has proven experience supporting children with SEMH needs
  • Demonstrates resilience, empathy and a calm approach to challenging behaviour
  • Is confident working 1:1 and in small groups
  • Has excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Holds relevant training or qualifications (e.g. Team Teach, Step On, CACHE Level 2/3)
  • Is committed to promoting pupil well-being and progress
