Year 1 Teaching Assistant

This school is looking for a caring and enthusiastic Year 1 Teaching Assistant to support their pupils during this crucial stage in their learning journey. You will work closely with the class teacher to deliver a supportive, stimulating and nurturing environment that promotes early literacy, numeracy and emotional development. Beginning September 2025.

Duties as a Year 1 Teaching Assistant:

• Support the class teacher in planning and delivering engaging learning activities.

• Work with individuals and small groups to help children reach their potential.

• Provide targeted support for pupils who may need additional help, including those with SEND or EAL.

• Assist with phonics teaching and early reading and writing skills.

• Help maintain a well-organised, welcoming classroom environment with engaging displays and resources.

• Support pupils’ social, emotional and behavioural development.

Ideal Year 1 Teaching Assistant:

• A relevant qualification (e.g., Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant or Early Years).

• Experience working in a KS1 or Year 1 classroom.

• Knowledge of phonics programmes such as Little Wandle, Read Write Inc, or Letters and Sounds as a Year 1 Teaching Assistant.

• Experience supporting pupils with SEND or additional needs.
