Job description

We are seeking a dedicated Full-Time SEMH Teaching Assistant for Year 5 and 6 for a long-term temporary role starting as soon as possible.

SEMH Teaching Assistant – Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with SEMH needs
  • Assist in the implementation of behaviour support plans and emotional regulation strategies
  • Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to adapt learning activities
  • Support pupils in managing transitions and building positive relationships
  • Promote a safe and inclusive learning environment
  • Collaborate with colleagues to support whole-school wellbeing initiatives
  • Uphold safeguarding responsibilities and contribute to pastoral care

SEMH Teaching Assistant – Ideal Candidate

  • Holds relevant SEMH Teaching Assistant qualifications
  • Has Team Teach training (essential)
  • Experience supporting children with SEMH needs in a primary school setting
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills as an SEMH Teaching Assistant.
  • Ability to build trusting relationships with pupils and staff
  • Committed to promoting pupil wellbeing and academic progress
  • Understanding of safeguarding practices and procedures
  • Flexible, resilient, and able to adapt to individual pupil needs
