Job description

We are seeking a dedicated Full-Time SEMH Teaching Assistant for a long-term temporary role starting as soon as possible.

This opportunity is within a secondary school that offers fresh starts and new beginnings for pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). Pupils grow in confidence and re-engage with education through strong, nurturing relationships with staff. The school promotes high expectations for learning, behaviour and personal development, and provides a rich set of experiences that help pupils become responsible, respectful citizens.

SEMH Teaching Assistant – Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with SEMH needs
  • Assist pupils in managing behaviour, anxiety and emotional regulation
  • Support pupils in re-engaging with learning and developing positive routines
  • Collaborate with teaching staff and pastoral teams to personalise support
  • Promote a calm, inclusive and respectful school culture
  • Contribute to enrichment activities and wider school initiatives
  • Uphold safeguarding responsibilities and maintain accurate records

SEMH Teaching Assistant – Ideal Candidate

  • Holds a Level 3 qualification relevant to supporting children and young people
  • Has prior experience working with pupils with SEMH needs in a secondary school setting
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills as a SEMH Teaching Assistant.
  • Ability to build trusting relationships with pupils and staff
  • Committed to promoting pupil wellbeing and academic progress
  • Understanding of safeguarding practices and procedures
  • Flexible, resilient and able to adapt to individual pupil needs
