Job description
We are seeking a compassionate and experienced SEND Nursery Assistant to join a caring and dedicated early years team from mid-October 2025 on a temporary, long-term contract.
Join a passionate team in a vibrant early years setting where children are curious, creative, and eager to learn. Staff work collaboratively to support each child’s development through engaging activities, meaningful interactions, and a nurturing environment that celebrates progress and individuality.
The role will initially start part-time with a scope to transition to full-time.
Duties as a SEND Nursery Assistant:
Support the learning, development, and well-being of children with SEN within the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
Work closely with children on a 1:1 basis or in small groups, following individual support plans.
Assist with planning and delivering play-based, child-centred activities in line with the EYFS curriculum.
Collaborate with the SENCO, parents/carers, and external professionals to support each child’s development.
Provide personal care when required, including feeding, changing, and supporting mobility or medical needs.
Observe, monitor, and record children’s progress, contributing to learning journals and reports.
Encourage positive behaviour, independence, and social skills.
Maintain a safe, clean, and stimulating environment that meets each child’s needs.
Uphold safeguarding and child protection procedures at all times.
Ideal SEND Nursery Assistant:
Hold a recognised Level 3 qualification in Early Years Education and Childcare (e.g. CACHE, NVQ, NNEB).
Have experience working with young children with SEN, such as autism, global developmental delay, speech and language needs, or physical disabilities.
Be caring, patient, and adaptable, with a passion for supporting every child’s potential.
Understand the EYFS framework and SEN Code of Practice as a SEND Nursery Assistant.
Work effectively as part of a team and communicate well with children, parents, and colleagues.
Be committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
